Roger and Jan Orner

Both of us are from missionary families, and have missionary siblings, children and a nephew.  As a result, missions has been an integral  part of our life.  While attending Moody Bible Institute (MBI) we had the goal of returning to the mission field.  After graduating from MBI, we were married and Roger got his degree from Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT).  After graduation from IIT, we took the Godly guidance of mission agency representatives to pursue a “secular” career for a few years, see how God works and consider missions again later.  Following their guidance led to a successful career, many opportunities to serve in the local church and sending others into ministry.  A career in management resulted in significant skill development and training opportunities for Roger.  During the same period, Jan ministered to women in the areas of spiritual growth, parenting, and marriage.  Together we developed a marriage mentoring program in our home church.

During the last 40 years, the Lord enabled us to support missionaries through prayer, finances, and spiritual and emotional support.  This included supporting missionaries by opening our home for short and extended stays, provision of vehicles and taking trips to come alongside them in their ministry.  Serving through these trips was physically and emotionally challenging at times but the knowledge of God using us was energizing and a growing period.  The desire to continue to minister during retirement was clearly revealed through a trip to come alongside a couple/family in ministry and has been confirmed by many since then.

The ministry God has called us to will focus on trips coming alongside those in ministry with the goal to encourage in every facet of their lives.  These could include assisting in their ministry, conflict resolution, performing menial tasks every day life make difficult to achieve, helping them process everyday life and providing marriage mentoring as needed. The gifts and skills God has equipped us with include:

    • Spiritual, physical and emotional encouragement
    • Marriage mentoring
    • Establishing a Marriage mentoring program
    • Marriage retreats
    • Conflict resolution (team or couples)
    • Mentoring Ladies
    • Transition planning and mentoring
    • Business review and plans
    • Business training session
    • Assist with tasks around home
    • Provide a time of retreat while we care for children

These  areas often affect the ministry and, with encouragement, their work can continue more effectively.
